Job Description 2500.00 Sign-On Bonus We seek a Lead Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our growing team at Neartown Animal Clinic to help ensure we provide great experiences for our clients and patients. The Lead Veterinary Technician supports the veterinarians in ensuring quality care for all pets in the hospital. The Lead Veterinary Technician assists doctors and the medical support team in providing exceptional medical care education and customer service to clients on all aspects of pet health. The Lead Veterinary Technician ensures a safe efficient and collaborative hospital environment by supporting and encouraging a positive team culture. Pay range of 24.00-30.00 per hour based on experience. Responsibilities and Benefits Position Skills - Perform initial evaluation of the pets condition and advise the veterinarian regarding the nature of the visit preventative care due and client concerns. - Restrain animals safely efficiently and compassionately during examinations and procedures. - Obtain and prepare laboratory samples as requested by the veterinarian i.e. urine fecal and ear cytology. Record results in the patients medical record and communicate results to the veterinarian in a timely fashion. - Prepare and perform radiographs following proper safety procedures. - Prepare and set up for surgical procedures while utilizing knowledge of proper sterile field requirements. - Accurately prepare and dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian ensuring that medications are added to the pets record and appropriately charged to the client. - Follow all DEA guidelines including but not limited to documentation of all controlled drugs used or dispensed at any time. - Follow all OSHA guidelines including but not limited to the appropriate safety and handling of hazardous materials. - Perform technical skills within state practice guidelines regarding the duties of credentialed and non-credentialed credentialed veterinary technicians. - Know vaccination guidelines within the hospital and administer vaccinations under the veterinarians direction. - Perform routine procedures i.e. heartworm testing nail trims and anal gland expressions. - Monitor hospitalized pets and perform treatments as directed by the veterinarian. - Utilize hospital computer systems to document medical records and communicate with clients and teammates. Systems include the hospital practice management system Vetcove Vital Rads and AllyDVM. - Train new veterinary technicians and assistants as outlined in the training manual. - Assist each member of the technical team in technical development. - Oversee the surgery department and ensure things are running smoothly and efficiently. - Set up new equipment and train the technical team on the use of the equipment. - Ensure equipment maintenance is performed routinely. - Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements - LVT or equivalent. - Flexible scheduling to include weekend and holiday availability. - Confidently able to use a computer and medical software including Microsoft Word and Excel. - Must possess strong communication skills good judgment and the ability to manage stressful situations. - Must have the physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
