Emplify Health by Gundersen is adding a Lead Histotechnologist to our Anatomical Pathology laboratory team.
What You'll Do:
The Lead Histotechnologist leads and coordinates the day-to-day activities and operations of the Histology Laboratory within the Anatomical Pathology Department, averaging around 400 blocks per day. The Lead Histotechnologist also works with and coordinates patient care with the following areas of Anatomical Pathology; Histology Assistants, Pathologists' Assistants, Pathologist, Pathology Secretaries, Cytotechnologist, and lab management to ensure the laboratory operations run efficiently. They support management decisions and communicate noncompliance to management. The Lead Histotechnologist delegates work to the staff to provide a high quality, accurate, detailed slide for the Pathologist to interpret the high complexity testing. The full scope of patient testing including tissue fixation and processing, embedding, microtomy, H & E staining, special staining, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and informatics in a safe environment. These processes support the transformation of fresh tissue specimens into microscopic slides to provide the Pathologist with the surgical data for diagnosis or by rapid diagnosis of fresh tissue prepared by freezing, cryomicrotomy, and staining to assist the Pathologist with the surgical pathology consultation in a stat environment. The lead implements and oversees quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, scheduling instrument preventative maintenance and troubleshooting as well as proficiency testing, standard operating procedure (SOP) development and maintenance.
What's Available:
72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE)
Monday - Friday starting at between 5:30a and 8a with call rotation
Starting pay of $30.73 per hour and up, commensurate with your relevant years of work experience
What You'll Need (Histology Technician):
Bachelor's degree in a science field. A copy of the applicant's/employee's diploma and/or transcript as confirmation of the education requirement must be provided at the time of hire
4 years of current or previous healthcare, laboratory or research work experience required
6 months recent work history as a histology technician in a comparable high-volume hospital histology laboratory desired
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification required
Self-starter with strong fine motor skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential for success in this role
