Overview:

Niche Gaffer Glass-Blower Lighting

This position is for an experienced glass blower.  You should have at least 3 years of experience in a hot shop setting as well as a general knowledge of terms and glass blowing equipment. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, welcomes new ideas, works well with others in a team environment, and who has a desire to hone their glass working and leadership skills in a production setting.

 

Compensation: $22.00 - $28.00 an hour

Hours:  7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily

Benefits: Accrued vacation and sick time, holidays paid. 401K available after 1 year of employment

Qualifications:

You should have at least 3 years of experience in a hot shop setting as well as a general knowledge of terms and glass blowing equipment.  At least 1 year of experience gaffing

Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Gaffer Role

  • Head Gaffer leading a team of glass blowers on all daily production.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of the standard shapes and colors in our production line.
  • Lead on developing our prototypes and giving input on the best way to execute new styles.
  • Team lead on end of week charging of the furnaces.

 

Management

  • This is a leadership position that requires thoughtful planning, communication, oversight, delegation, and coordination inside your team.
  • Ability to train other gaffers and share information, knowledge, skill, and process improvement.
  • Inform and support HS team regarding jobs and general requirements around the shop.
  • Work with production manager on scheduling and team structure as well as training and overseeing new hires.
  • Daily post-production meeting with production manager to discuss issues/concerns of the day.

 

Studio Management

  • Monitor and enforce all safety guidelines and maintain an organized and safe studio.
  • Assist and advise production manager and owner on needs, improvements, new technologies, shop expansion and new equipment acquisitions.
  • Oversee ordering of supplies
  • Knowledge and ability to repair equipment or communicates with appropriate vendor to schedule necessary repairs
  • Performing routine tech maintenance

Niche Opens its studio weekly on Wednesday nights to allow employees the use of glass, plus equipment for the purpose of making personal work.
