JOB REQUIREMENTS: We are looking for an ambitious and talented lead
software engineer to join the Advisor Desktop team at Northwestern
Mutual. You will be working on Advisor Desktop, a key platform that NM
financial representatives use to service their clients every day. You
will partner with product leaders, architects, and other lead engineers
to design systems to meet key business needs while also driving our
engineering standards and target state. You will be a key technical
leader, mentor, and problem solver for engineers across Advisor Desktop
The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of modern web app development,
REST and GraqhQL APIs, and databases. Engineers at NM are empowered to
pick the right tools and technology stack to fit their needs. The team
is using the following technologies to build software: React,
TypeScript, Apollo GraphQL Federation, MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB,
Docker, Kubernetes, Gitlab, Jira.Skills required to be successful in
this role React TypeScript MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB Writing & consuming
RESTful APIs Writing & consuming GraphQL APIs Docker Git Linux/Unix &
shell scripting (bash) CI/CD experience (we use gitlabCI) Automated
testing: unit, integration, regression Additional skills & experience
that would help Javascript, NodeJS Kubernetes AWS terraforming
Experience with AWS services such as SQS, SNS, and Glue. Github or
gitlab Previous experience in the Financial Services sector
(investments, insurance, banking, payroll systems) Milestones Within
first month, while working with other lead engineers and managers, be
able to jump head-first into new applications and ask the appropriate
questions / do the appropriate research to identify the general
functions and behaviors of the system. Begin contributing to on one
business epic's design under the guidance of another lead engineer.
Within first 3 months, have proficient knowledge of the baseline
applications and be able to take the reins on the design/architecture of
a feature with minimal assistance from other lead engineers on the team.
Within first 6 months, be able to navigate the full stack of the
applications and supporting components, contributing directly to
engineering/architecture discussions that affect the current and future
state of the applications. Essentially, contributing to the team at your

teams to build. Implements holistic solutions utilizing working
relationships across the enterprise. Designs, organizes, and executes
high impact solutions across teams both within and outside their
