CDM Smith is seeking a licensed **Lead Electrical Engineer** to provide expert technical direction, design oversight, and quality leadership across multidisciplinary projects. In this role, you will guide the development of complex electrical systems, resolve challenging technical issues, review and approve engineering deliverables, and support projects from planning through construction. This is a hybrid position with a strong preference for candidates based in **Knoxville, Tennessee** . You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, clients, and business development teams across the water, wastewater, industrial, federal, transportation, and infrastructure markets. You will also mentor developing professionals, contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge, and help advance electrical engineering standards and practices. As a **Lead Electrical Engineer** , you will: + Work independently and serve as a senior technical authority for electrical engineering projects of moderate to high complexity. + Establish technical direction and provide expert guidance for electric master plans, power distribution systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, and sustainability and renewable energy systems. + Oversee the development of electrical calculations, studies, drawings, specifications, and other technical deliverables. + Review electrical designs for technical accuracy, constructability, quality, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. + Review and approve completed designs and engineering documents within the limits of professional licensure and assigned authority. + Ensure that designs follow firm policies, quality-control procedures, technical standards, and established engineering practices. + Resolve complex or unusual technical issues and support project teams in evaluating design alternatives. + Conduct site investigations, field reviews, and technical studies to verify existing conditions and confirm that designs align with project and location requirements. + Update design criteria, technical requirements, and engineering recommendations based on site findings and project developments. + Provide technical guidance during construction, including support for submittal reviews, requests for information, field issues, and design modifications. + Contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge management program by developing white papers, design standards, technical guidance, and documentation for new, complex, or special-case designs and studies. + Prepare technical papers, presentations, and project examples for potential publication or presentation through professional and industry organizations. + Collaborate with sales and client-service teams to prepare proposals and responses to requests for proposals. + Review technical proposal content for alignment with firm standards, industry practices, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. + Meet with current and prospective clients to understand their technical needs and support the development of future project opportunities. + Participate in conferences, technical symposia, and industry events to expand professional knowledge and increase awareness of the firm’s services and capabilities. + Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and design professionals. + Supervise and review the technical work of engineers and designers assigned to project teams. + Support the professional development and long-term growth of staff within the electrical discipline and the firm. + Perform other duties as required. \#LI-TM1 \#LI-Hybrid **Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline. + Professional Engineer license. + 12 years of related electrical engineering experience. + Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. + Domestic and/or international travel may be required depending on project needs, workload, and business demands. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience providing technical leadership for electrical power-system projects in the water, wastewater, industrial, federal, or transit markets. + Experience designing and reviewing medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems. + Experience with substations, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, emergency power, standby generation, grounding, and related facility electrical systems. + Familiarity with applicable industry and federal codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, and UFC requirements. + Experience performing or reviewing load-flow, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, and related power-system studies. + Hands-on experience with SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar power-system analysis software. + Experience reviewing and approving electrical designs as a licensed Professional Engineer. + Experience developing engineering standards, technical publications, white papers, or industry presentations. + Experience supporting technical proposals, client development, and multidisciplinary project teams. **Skills & Abilities** + Expert knowledge of electrical engineering design principles, practices, and procedures. + Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and oversight for complex electrical engineering projects. + Expert knowledge of computer-aided design and drafting practices, including applicable 3D and 4D design platforms. + Strong knowledge of electrical design quality assurance and quality control practices. + Expert knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations. + Strong ability to review, evaluate, and resolve complex engineering issues. + Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other commonly used business applications. + Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. + Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to clients, project managers, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders. + Ability to manage competing technical priorities and provide consistent guidance across multiple projects and teams. **Amount
