Deli Lead Clerk (Counter)

The Deli Counter Lead Clerk is responsible for overseeing daily deli operations while providing excellent customer service and maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and safety. This role supports deli staff, assists customers with product selections and special orders, and ensures the department operates efficiently and in compliance with company and health regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support deli team members during daily operations
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service
  • Prepare, slice, package, weigh, and label deli products accurately
  • Maintain fresh, organized, and visually appealing displays
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and stocking merchandise
  • Train and coach employees on deli procedures, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with health department regulations and company policies
  • Operate deli equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assist customers with catering trays, special orders, and product recommendations
  • Handle customer concerns and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Maintain cleanliness of counters, cases, prep areas, storage rooms, and equipment
  • Assist with scheduling, opening/closing duties, and task delegation when needed
  • Monitor product rotation, waste, and spoilage to support department profitability

Qualifications:

  • Previous deli, food service, or grocery experience preferred
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is an asset
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of food handling and sanitation practices
  • Ability to lift up to 40-50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed
