Job Purpose
The Lead Cook is responsible for overseeing food preparation and execution during assigned shifts while supporting kitchen leadership in maintaining quality standards, food safety compliance, and smooth service operations. This role acts as a working leader on the line: setting the pace, training team members, and ensuring consistency across all dishes served.
Responsibilities
Lead kitchen operations during assigned shifts and ensure timely, accurate food execution
Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes and brand standards
Set up and break down stations efficiently for service
Support training and onboarding of new kitchen team members
Monitor food quality, portioning, and presentation
Enforce food safety, sanitation, and cleaning procedures
Assist with inventory checks, prep lists, and product rotation
Communicate service needs and issues to the Kitchen Manager or Chef
Help maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in safe working order
Step into production roles during high-volume service periods
Uphold safety standards and proper use of kitchen equipment
Contribute to a positive, professional team culture
Qualifications
2+ years of cooking experience in a fast-paced or high-volume kitchen environment
Previous leadership or trainer experience preferred
Strong working knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
Reliable attendance and schedule flexibility
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Working Conditions
Fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, sharp tools, noise, and commercial equipment
Standing and walking for extended periods
Lifting and carrying supplies up to 50 pounds
Schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays
Peak service periods requiring hands-on leadership
