Position Overview:
Seeking a High Level AIX Engineer to serve as a senior technical resource and subject matter expert (SME) for the enterprise IBM Power Systems and AIX infrastructure. This role is responsible for advanced system administration, complex troubleshooting, platform engineering, and technical leadership within a mission critical banking environment. The engineer will drive platform stability, modernization, and standardization while mentoring junior engineers and partnering with architecture, security, and application teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced AIX Engineering & Platform Ownership
Serve as a technical SME for IBM AIX and Power Systems across enterprise environments
Design, implement, and maintain standardized AIX builds and configurations
Lead advanced system administration activities including LVM design, paging optimization, and filesystem strategy
Own platform health, capacity planning, and performance optimization initiatives
Ensure systems meet enterprise security, compliance, and audit requirements
Complex Incident & Problem Management
Lead resolution of high severity (P1/P2) AIX incidents and complex system outages
Perform deep dive root cause analysis and drive permanent corrective actions
Provide escalation support for entry and mid level engineers
Partner with application, database, storage, and network teams to resolve cross platform issues
Review incident trends and proactively address systemic weaknesses
Change, Upgrade & Modernization Leadership
Plan and execute complex AIX changes including OS upgrades, TL/SP strategy, and re architecture efforts
Lead platform refreshes, migrations, and data center transformation initiatives
Define and enforce change standards, validation procedures, and rollback plans
Review and approve changes executed by junior team members
Drive adoption of modern operational practices and tooling
Automation, Standardization & Continuous Improvement
Design and implement automation for AIX administration and operational tasks
Develop and review scripts (KornShell, Bash, Ansible, etc.) for scalability and reliability
Establish best practices for configuration management and system consistency
Identify opportunities to reduce operational risk through standardization and automation
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor and coach entry and mid level AIX engineers
Review SOPs, runbooks, and technical documentation for accuracy and completeness
Lead knowledge sharing sessions and contribute to team skill development
Act as a technical advisor to management and cross functional stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of hands on experience administering IBM AIX in large scale enterprise environments
Deep expertise in AIX system administration, LVM, filesystems, paging space, and performance tuning
Extensive experience with AIX patching, technology levels, service packs, and system upgrades
Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems, LPARs, and virtualization concepts
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex OS level performance and stability issues
Experience operating within ITIL based environments and change management processes
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Expert level experience with PowerVM, HMC, and VIOS administration
Experience designing high availability and resilient AIX architectures
Advanced scripting and automation experience (KornShell, Bash, Ansible)
ServiceNow or similar ITSM platform experience
Experience supporting systems in regulated industries (banking, finance, healthcare)
Experience driving platform modernization or transformation initiatives
AI assisted operational or engineering experience using Copilot or similar tools
Work Environment & Schedule
Offshore GCC position working Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
Senior on call participation for critical AIX infrastructure and major incidents
Follow the sun support model with close coordination across global teams
Leadership role within a highly visible, mission critical platform team
