Position Overview
The Lead Bartender is responsible for overseeing bar operations during assigned shifts (35 -40 hours/week), ensuring exceptional guest experience, driving team performance, and upholding Birthright s policies, procedures, and service standards.
This role combines hands-on bartending with leadership and operational accountability.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Minimum 5+ years of high-volume bartending experience
- Strong craft beer knowledge, including styles, flavor profiles, ABV, and food pairings
- Ability to confidently speak about beer and offer thoughtful recommendations to guests
- Cocktail expertise and strong knowledge of mixed drinks and classic cocktails
- Experience working in fast-paced, nightlife or high-energy environments
- Strong leadership presence and ability to manage younger teams
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and high-volume events
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs (including kegs and bar inventory)
- RAMP certification (or willingness to obtain immediately)
Key Responsibilities
- Bar & Guest Experience Leadership
- Deliver exceptional service while leading from behind the bar
- Provide expert craft beer and cocktail recommendations
- Confidently manage high-volume shifts
- Set the tone for energy, professionalism, and guest engagement
- Handle difficult situations and younger crowds with confidence and control
- Ensure responsible alcohol service at all times
- Team Leadership & Accountability
- Supervise bartenders during shifts
- Ensure side work is assigned, scheduled, and completed properly
- Support scheduling coordination (as directed by management)
- Coach bartenders on performance, upselling, and product knowledge
- Address minor performance concerns in real time
Training & Standards
- Assist in onboarding and training new bartenders
- Lead craft beer and cocktail knowledge training sessions
- Reinforce company policies and procedures
- Ensure consistent execution of opening and closing procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and bar organization standards
- Protect company assets (keys, inventory, POS systems)
Operational Execution
- Monitor keg levels and bar inventory
- Move and replace kegs as needed
- Ensure accurate POS usage and cash handling
- Assist with inventory counts as needed
- Communicate operational issues to ownership/management
