Job Details:
The Lead auto mechanic will oversee the day to day operations of the fleet department overseeing and performing complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs while also supervising a team of mechanics. This position will ensure work quality and safety compliance, managing maintenance schedules, and handling administrative tasks including record-keeping and inventory. This role requires strong technical skills across a range of vehicle systems (gas, diesel, and increasingly, electronic), leadership abilities, and excellent problem-solving skills.
Expectations & Requirements:
- Supervise and coordinate: Direct the work of other mechanics, assign tasks, and ensure jobs are completed safely and efficiently.
- Perform repairs: Diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various types of vehicles and equipment, including major engine overhauls and brake work.
- Quality control: Conduct quality assurance inspections, perform road tests, and ensure all work meets safety and company standards.
- Diagnose issues: Use diagnostic tools, equipment, and computerized scanners to identify mechanical and electrical problems and estimate repair time and costs.
- Manage parts and inventory: Monitor and replenish parts inventory, order necessary supplies, and check for the best prices.
- Maintain records: Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including time and materials used.
- Ensure compliance: Enforce safety regulations and company policies.
- Provide guidance: Train and mentor staff on difficult repairs and proper use of diagnostic equipment.
Position Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience in a related repair field, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification is preferred.
- A valid state driver’s license in good standing
Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of managing an automotive repair operation in a multi-use auto garage or service center.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to bend, kneel or crouch.
- Ability to lift without significant assistance
Posted Salary Range:
USD $25.70 - USD $38.48 /Hr.
