The position provides proactive counseling throughout the student life cycle, including pre-enrollment financial aid guidance, annual borrowing reviews, cumulative indebtedness review, loan repayment planning, exit counseling support, and post-graduation debt management education. The position collaborates with the Director for Financial Aid & Military Affiliated Student Services, the Manager of Scholarship & Aid Processing, Student Business Services, the Registrar''s Office, school-based student affairs offices, academic programs, and other SSSE units to support coordinated student service, compliance, and student success.45244BRUp to 25%

  • Provide individualized financial aid and student success advising to prospective students, applicants, enrolled students, graduating students, alumni, regarding financial aid, scholarships, grants, work-study employment, student loans, alternative financing, cost of attendance, student account obligations, and debt management.
  • Conduct proactive student loan and debt management counseling, including annual borrowing reviews, cumulative indebtedness reviews, repayment planning, budgeting, financial literacy, loan consolidation, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, income-driven repayment options, deferment, forbearance, delinquency prevention, and default prevention.
  • Provide advising and outreach for high-debt and professional student populations, including medical, dental, graduate, and other health professions students with significant borrowing needs.
  • Assist students with financial aid application requirements, FAFSA-related processes, verification, documentation requests, eligibility review, financial aid offers, satisfactory academic progress, professional judgment referrals, appeal processes, and award revisions
  • Assist in processing applications, verifying application data, determining eligibility, resolving data conflicts, monitoring awards, and processing federal, state, institutional, and outside awards as directed.
  • Support student loan processing functions, including review of program progress for loan eligibility, annual and aggregate loan limits, required loan counseling, financial aid records, and accurate student loan documentation.
  • Assist with importing and exporting Direct Student Loan records through the financial aid delivery system and the U.S. Department of Education Common Origination and Disbursement system to support accurate student loan processing.
  • Identify and address financial barriers affecting enrollment, retention, persistence, and completion; provide referrals to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Collaborate with Student Business Services, the Registrar's Office, student affairs offices, academic programs, and SSSE units to coordinate student support services.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, workshops, communications, and educational materials related to financial aid, debt management, financial literacy, recruitment, retention, and student success.
  • Support LCME accreditation, compliance, assessment, reporting, and initiatives through documentation, data collection, outreach tracking, and service evaluation.
  • Track student contacts, debt management counseling activity, workshop participation, borrower concerns, and financial barriers. Assist with surveys, assessment, quality assurance reviews, and reporting related to financial aid and debt management services.
  • Analyze and disseminate federal, state, and institutional financial aid program rules and regulations. Assist with maintaining policies, procedures, training materials, student-facing guidance, and internal documentation related to assigned programs.
  • Remain current with federal student aid requirements, state aid requirements, institutional aid procedures, student loan programs, repayment options, loan forgiveness programs, debt management resources, tuition waivers, consortium agreements, mandatory compliance requirements, and required training.
  • Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

  • Prior experience in a financial aid office within a higher education institution.
  • Prior experience advising students on federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, Title IV eligibility, verification, satisfactory academic progress, scholarships, grants, work-study, student loans, cost of attendance, and professional judgment processes.
  • Prior experience with debt management, borrower education, cumulative indebtedness review, repayment planning, loan consolidation.
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness, income-driven repayment plans, delinquency prevention, default prevention, or financial literacy programming.
