About the Agency
Located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi, the MDMR manages all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economical uses of these resources that are consistent with environmental concerns and social changes. Our mission is to enhance, protect and conserve the states marine interests.
About the Position
This is advanced senior-level work enforcing the laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances regarding the protection, propagation, preservation, and conservation of marine life in the saltwater of the State of Mississippi and coastal wetlands. Incumbents are responsible for the effective prosecution of violators through courts of law and working 10-12 hours per day on a 28-day work cycle, working on holidays, weekends, and nights. Enforcement powers are conferred by state and federal statute, and incumbents utilize these powers in the execution of their duties and responsibilities, as well as in assisting other state, federal, and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies. Incumbents at this level perform more specialized enforcement duties associated with more complex investigations, and they act as a lead worker performing supervisory, leadership, and training functions for lower-level marine law enforcement officers. In addition, marine law enforcement officers at this level regularly assist supervisory personnel in the implementation, administration, and evaluation of programs, activities, performance appraisals, and budgets. The incumbent will report directly to a Law Enforcement Supervisor.
What youll need to be Successful
Knowledge of seafood laws and boat and water safety laws. Experience operating a marine/motor vessel is essential, as well as knowledge of local waterways. Individuals with law enforcement experience. Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding the protection, propagation, preservation and conservation of Mississippi marine life.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification, and 2-4 years of experience in law enforcement.
