Description
The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking motivated and detail-oriented law clerks to support the Office of Equity, Policy, and Engagement (OEPE) in advancing equity and justice across OAG's work through various programs and initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for current law students to gain hands-on experience in government legal practice, including policy development, legislative analysis, and civil rights work. As a law clerk, you will:
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on a range of legal issues, including civil rights, equity policy, and administrative law
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents, correspondence, and policy materials
- Review and summarize case files, legislative proposals, and administrative records
- Attend hearings, meetings, and community-facing events as appropriate
- Assist with legislative and regulatory analysis, including tracking and analyzing Maryland and federal legislation
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of OEPE's legal team and equity initiatives
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an accredited law school
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Demonstrated interest in public service, civil rights, equity, or public interest law
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal research tools
- Professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to ethical legal practice
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a public law office, legal clinic, or government agency
- Coursework in constitutional law, civil rights law, administrative law, or public interest law
- Familiarity with Maryland law, legislative process, and court procedures
