GENERAL NOTE This position reports to a Zone Coordinator. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position nor does every position allocated to the class necessarily perform every duty listed. The persons hired in this position will perform a variety of landscaping duties within a specified work zone, which may change, including the operation of appropriate equipment for planting, fertilizing, pruning, mowing, and other landscaping maintenance or grounds-keeping activities as needed.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

• Performs work and maintenance of lawns and landscaped areas. • Plants and transplant trees, shrubs, and other plants. • Treats and/or disposes of dead and diseased trees, shrubs, and other plant materials through the use of handsaw, chainsaw, hydraulic tools, pesticide sprayer. • Assist in irrigation system diagnosis and maintenance. • Assist in weed abatement and weed abatement scheduling. • Mows, trims, and edges designated areas. • Trims and prunes trees and shrubs using chainsaw, handsaw, hand pruners, pole pruners, pole saw, and possibly aerial lift truck or rope and saddle. • Sprays and fertilizes trees, shrubs, and other plants. • Assists in the maintenance and repair of chainsaws and other small equipment. • Performs daily preventative maintenance of equipment and reports needed repairs and replacements to Landscape Lead. • Operates all equipment in a responsible and safe manner. • Maintains accurate and timely records of time, labor, and materials as assigned. • Picks up and Disposes garbage, trash, and waste paper. • Keeps assigned areas in an orderly condition. • Reports damage to structures and equipment that requires repairs to the proper department. • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Supervisors, Lead positions, and other employees. • Completes work assignments without close supervision. • Completes all projects as to neatness, conformance with standards of related trade. • May be assigned other duties as required. • This position may also be required to work after hours and weekends when necessary. • This position may also be required to perform duties on shift work schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a high school graduate or have obtained a GED equivalent. Must have three years of experience in building services trade or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have knowledge of methods and equipment, including chainsaws, hand saws, pruners, hedge shears, roto-tillers, back pack sprayers, tank sprayers, shovels, rakes, hoes, tampers, lawn mowers, lawn blowers, etc., associated with landscaping and grounds maintenance. Must have the ability to adapt to additional equipment as assigned. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Perform tasks under adverse weather conditions. • Read and interpret work assigned through written and verbal instructions. • Must be able to perform work requiring physical exertion, heavy lifting, and to work continuously while standing. • Must perform tasks under adverse weather conditions. • Must be insurable as determined by MCPSS personnel into private and business driving records within any three-year time frame.

Duty Days: 260 Salary Range From-To: $32,513.00 Additional Job Information

Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check, fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department, and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
