Job Summary

We are seeking a Landscape Construction and maintenance Estimator. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive bids for public and private landscape construction and maintenance projects. The role requires managing multiple bids simultaneously, working within tight deadlines, and coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and general contractors.

In this role, you will be responsible for accurately assessing project costs, preparing detailed estimates, and collaborating closely with clients, project managers, and subcontractors. Your expertise will help ensure projects are financially successful while maintaining high-quality standards.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Estimate all types of landscape construction and maintenance projects for public works and private clients
  • Perform detailed specification, plans and contract document review
  • Complete quantity take-offs, square footage take-offs, and material take-offs
  • Solicit, review, compare, market research for the lowest price, and qualify vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Prepare detailed estimates using estimating software (WinEst preferred)
  • Build estimate assemblies including labor, materials, equipment, mobilization, insurance, overhead, taxes, and markups
  • Prepare, review with owner, project manager and other estimators, formalize, and submit bid proposals
  • Review bid opportunities through platforms such as Builders Exchange of Washington, NAPC, the Daily Journal of Commerce, and several more.
  • Respond to general contractor bid solicitations
  • Evaluate bid opportunities based on scope, schedule, location, duration, and companies’ preference
  • Conduct site visits prior to bidding when and if required
  • Maintain accurate bid files, documentation, and pricing records
  • Prepare and analyze cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services
  • Manage contract documents, including scope of work, change orders, and project budgets
  • Monitor project costs throughout the construction process to ensure adherence to budgets and identify areas for cost control or adjustments

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing while maintaining quality standards
  • Solid understanding of construction estimating processes within the landscape or general construction industry
  • Experience with construction site operations and understanding of construction management principles
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, contracts, and specifications accurately
  • Familiarity with construction site safety protocols and experience working on active job sites is a plus
  • 2+ years of experience estimating landscape construction or construction projects. Experience must include landscape-specific scopes such as planting, irrigation, hardscape, and site improvements.
  • Preferably strong knowledge of landscape construction means and methods
  • Excellent blueprint, specification, and plan-reading skills
  • Strong vendor and subcontractor coordination experience
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook; estimating software required (WinEst preferred)
  • Excellent math accuracy and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong team-oriented approach within a small-office environment

Additional Information

  • This is a fully in-office position.
  • Daily, in-person attendance at the Buckley Nursery Company office is required. This position is not remote or hybrid.
