Position Overview and Responsibilities:
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of State Lands is Florida's lead agency for environmental management and stewardship and serves as staff to the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund (Board of Trustees).
Within the Division of State Lands, the Bureau of Real Estate Services (BRES) manages all aspects of real property transactions on behalf of the Board of Trustees, including negotiation, acquisition, disposition, exchange, donation, and closing of real property. BRES also administers statewide contracts for title and closing services, as well as environmental site assessments.
To support the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's mission, BRES regularly collaborates with other agency divisions, water management districts, and state agencies serving as land managers to negotiate and facilitate real estate transactions that advance critical conservation and operational objectives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: State and federal laws, rules, and regulations concerning acquisition and related activities; the methods of data collection and analysis; basic management principles and practices.
Skilled in: Operating a computer.
Ability to: Supervise employees; collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations; solve problems; document work flow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices; organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials; conduct fact-finding research; utilize problem-solving techniques; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to operational and management analysis activities; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; exercise sound independent judgment; read and interpret contracts, maps, abstracts of title and title commitments, appraisals, court records, and legal documents; prepare detailed written work and accurate reports; maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, the general public, and management; and demonstrate teamwork.
