This is a part-time, season, hourly position with seasonally adjusted hours. Employees typically work a variety of hours per week during the busy summer season (May–September) and approximately may continue to work during the fall, winter, and spring, depending on business needs.
Position Summary
The Lake Patrol Crew Member provides hands-on customer service and safety education and services for LOC’s lake safety operations. This position is responsible for promoting safety on Oswego Lake and adjacent LOC properties through enforcement and education of state marine laws and LOC rules, training coordination, and emergency response. The Crew Members also partner with shareholders, community members, and public safety agencies, ensuring positive relationships and consistent enforcement practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Safety, Compliance & Enforcement
- Educate and enforce Lake Oswego Corporation rules with shareholders and easement members. Educate the public regarding regulations, and applicable City, County, and State marine laws.
- Respond to emergency calls, coordinate with public safety agencies, and support incident management efforts.
- Conduct or oversee boat operator testing, and driver certification recordkeeping.
- Monitor lake and shoreline conditions for hazards, recommend corrective actions, and implement safety measures.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary contact for law enforcement, fire, and public safety partners.
- Respond to shareholders and community inquiries with discretion and professionalism.
- Support community events such as the Fourth of July Parade and Hot August Night concert.
- Support the Operations and Marina teams with daily operations as needed.
Administration & Reporting
- Compile patrol activity summaries, enforcement reports, and incident documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records, patrol logs, and safety metrics.
- Prepare and, when required, provide testimony in legal or administrative proceedings.
Other Duties
- Support employee safety program by conducting training, participating in safety committee meetings
- Support other departments as needed in activities such as development, marina, operations, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in law enforcement, fire/life safety, public safety administration, or related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and interact with members and the public.
- Strong watercraft handling skills and have ability to swim.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
- Ability and familiarity with basic computer programs such as email, word, excel, etc.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Work performed in both office and outdoor environments, with frequent exposure to water and varying weather conditions.

- Requires visual and auditory acuity to monitor lake activity.

Compensation & Classification
This position is hourly and non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Oregon wage laws. Overtime is paid for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek. The role does not carry any direct supervisory responsibilities and reports directly to the Patrol Manager.
