John Smith Landfill, a Waste Connections company, is currently looking to hire a Utility person (Scale House Attendant / Laborer) in Hollister, CA!


The schedule will either be Wednesday-Sunday or Saturday - Wednesday.


+ Weekend hours: 9am-5:30pm

+ Weekday hours: 7:45am-4:15pm


On weekend days, you will be in the scale house, weighing trucks in and out of the facility and also interacting with the public. On weekdays, you will be doing physical labor outside.


The starting pay rate will be $23/hour. The pay range for this position is $23-24.70/hour.


Responsibilities:


+ Greet and direct all customers and employees upon entry of the transfer station.

+ Weighing trucks in and out and calculating payments for customers.

+ Track weight information from scale to computer system and get appropriate signatures.

+ Picking litter on the slopes of the landfill

+ Shoveling/clearing our drainage ditches

+ Ensuring that incoming garbage loads are safe and do not contain any inappropriate material.

+ Answers phone in a professional and enthusiastic fashion.

+ Performs full clerical and general office duties.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

+ Assisting with office duties, filing and paperwork as needed.

+ Ensuring that customers and employees conduct all business in a safe manner and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

+ Providing general upkeep of the Scale House.

+ Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate a high degree of tact, discretion and diplomacy.


Requirements:


+ Ability to perform physical activities - bending, shoveling, walking up hills, etc.

+ Strong attention to detail

+ Strong customer service skills

+ Good computer skills.

+ Prior cash handling experience required with the ability to balance a cash drawer daily

+ Valid driver's license and clean driving record

+ Reliability and punctuality is a must.

+ Ability to work independently
