NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Environmental Protection Agency through the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Chemistry/Lab Work OR BA/BS Degree in Chemistry OR Previously completed training in Chemistry and Lab Safety

  • Generic Laboratory Safety
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Adobe, Copying Machine
Duties:

Laboratory technician at the EPA Region 6 Houston Laboratory (LSASD). Provides analytical support through sample preparation, analysis, data review, as well as general administrative support to the division's overall science mission.

  • Performs sample preparation and analysis.   50%
  • Performs analytical data review.   40%
  • Assists in general laboratory and Quality Assurance support functions.   10%

Other:
  • Demonstration of Capability, annual Quality control and performance tests
  • Health Safety Training: Initial 40-hour laboratory safety training prior to performing lab work. Annual recurring 8-hour refreshers thereafter.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Region 6 Health and Safety Officer will enroll the staff in the program.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals in the laboratory, (mostly organic solvents)
  • Required Safety Gear: Lab coat, safety goggles, gloves, closed toe shoes.
  • Safety Gear Use: Sample handling, preparation, and analysis.
