Role: Laboratory Support Specialist – Glassware Operations
Location: 777 Old Saw Mill Rd., Tarrytown, NY 10591
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential Extension or Full-Time Conversion)
Compensation: $25/Hour + Benefits

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Glassware – Inventory Specialist to join the PerkinElmer Laboratory Services team. This role supports laboratory operations by managing centralized glassware collection, cleaning, sanitization, inspection, inventory control, and redistribution services.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative laboratory environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, transport, process, and return laboratory glassware and plasticware while maintaining contamination control standards.
  • Follow approved procedures for handling contaminated and non-contaminated laboratory materials safely.
  • Operate laboratory support equipment including glassware washers, dry heat sterilizers, and ultrasonic cleaning systems.
  • Prepare glassware, caps, and related materials for sanitization according to established protocols.
  • Conduct visual inspections to verify cleanliness, residue removal, and structural integrity before releasing glassware for use.
  • Maintain equipment logs, temperature records, and documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Perform routine operational checks and basic preventive maintenance on glass wash equipment.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance activities including monthly descaling procedures.
  • Track and manage glassware inventory levels; communicate shortages and replenishment needs to leadership.
  • Maintain clean, organized processing and storage areas.
  • Follow all laboratory safety standards and proactively report operational or safety concerns.
  • Complete assigned training and maintain compliance with environmental, health, safety, and security requirements.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Partner with leadership on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional laboratory support teams to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Cross-train across additional lab support functions as business needs require.
 
Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
 
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a Scientific or Technical discipline OR
  • High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years of laboratory, manufacturing, or operational support experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting laboratory glass wash operations.
  • Familiarity with autoclaves, glassware washers, sterilization equipment, or related laboratory systems.
 
Work Environment
  • Work within laboratory and controlled environments while wearing required PPE (lab coat, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Fast-paced environment with changing priorities and operational demands.
  • Ability to stand and remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent movement between labs, corridors, and onsite facilities.
  • Regular bending, stretching, reaching, and equipment handling.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess visual acuity for detailed inspection tasks including close vision, color recognition, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Occasional operation of computers and office equipment.
  • May support hazardous waste handling in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Potential exposure to laboratory conditions including biological materials, chemicals, and temperature variations.
  • May require medical clearance, respirator training, and fit testing based on laboratory requirements.
