Job Summary

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Medical Director, the Laboratory Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of laboratory personnel engaged in performing chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests. The role ensures adherence to quality control protocols, assists in maintaining laboratory equipment, and supports the Manager in overseeing staffing, training, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises laboratory personnel in performing routine and specialized testing procedures.
  • Develops and implements quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Assists with staffing, scheduling, and training laboratory personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, including CLIA, CAP, and TJC standards.
  • Monitors laboratory equipment and coordinates maintenance and calibration.
  • Assists in budgeting, purchasing of laboratory supplies, and inventory management.
  • Reviews test results to ensure accuracy and adherence to quality control protocols.
  • Provides technical guidance and resolves testing-related issues.
  • Assists with proficiency testing and ensures corrective actions are implemented when needed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by a nationally recognized agency preferred.
  • State license as required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Certification as MT or MLS preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience with supervisory or leadership responsibilities in a high complexity testing environment.
