Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $53,902.00 - $61,603.00 Full Salary Range: $46,818.00 - $83,780.00 Annually

About the Role:The Laboratory Specialist (Pretreatment Compliance) assists in implementing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-mandated Industrial Pretreatment Program by monitoring industrial wastewater discharges, supporting compliance efforts, conducting inspections and sampling activities, and providing technical guidance to regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in administering the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program in accordance with EPA, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct inspections, sampling, monitoring, and compliance evaluations of industrial wastewater dischargers.
- Monitor compliance with wastewater discharge permits and the City of Greensboro Sewer Use Ordinance.
- Review analytical data and evaluate wastewater discharge characteristics.
- Provide technical assistance and regulatory guidance to industrial users.
- Document inspection findings, monitoring results, and compliance activities.
- Assist with permit development, compliance determinations, and enforcement actions when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare technical reports supporting regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with internal staff, laboratories, regulatory agencies, and industrial customers to ensure program effectiveness.
- Support initiatives that protect wastewater treatment processes, biosolids quality, employee safety, and environmental health.
Additional Position Details:- Work includes office, laboratory, industrial facility, and field environments.
- Position may require walking industrial sites, collecting wastewater samples, climbing stairs, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional lifting of sampling equipment and field supplies may be required.
- This position requires sound professional judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting regulatory deadlines.
- Position is Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
