Position Title: Laboratory Manager { Biology, Chemistry, and Natural Sciences

The Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operation, safety, maintenance, and instructional support of the Biology and Chemistry teaching and research laboratories. This role ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal safety guidelines, maintains inventory and equipment, supports faculty teaching needs, and facilitates a safe and efficient learning environment for students. This position reports to both the Department Chair and the Dean of the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage daily laboratory operations for Biology, Chemistry, and related Natural Science courses, including lab setup, breakdown, and instructional support. • Prepare and maintain laboratory materials, reagents, solutions, media, and equipment required for teaching and research labs. • Maintain laboratory inventory, oversee procurement, organize Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and manage chemical, biological, and sharps waste disposal. • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and institutional safety regulations; maintain clean, safe, and well-organized laboratory environments. • Supervise and train Student Lab Assistants; maintain and coordinate calibration, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment. • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field required; Masters degree preferred. • Experience in teaching or research laboratories, preferably in higher education. • Knowledge of chemical hygiene, laboratory safety, and equipment maintenance. • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and student workers. • Familiarity with laboratory procurement systems and vendor relations. • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Competencies

• Experience supervising laboratory personnel or student workers. • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safety regulations. • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory instruments. • Commitment to supporting undergraduate teaching and research activities.
