  • Oversee all CPDR laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, efficient workflows, quality assurance, and safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemical, biological, and radiological materials.

  • Collaborate with senior scientists, technical staff, and program leadership to implement quality systems and support research operations.
  • Operate, maintain, and document specialized laboratory equipment, including autoclave validation and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate equipment servicing and repairs with vendors, ensuring proper decontamination prior to maintenance.
  • Manage facility operations by submitting work orders, coordinating with building services, and serving as primary contact for contractors and service providers.
  • Perform and oversee minor repairs, general upkeep, and maintenance of CPDR laboratory and office spaces.
  • Manage laboratory information systems and maintain accurate inventories of chemicals, supplies, and reagents.
  • Oversee procurement activities, including supply room operations, monitoring stock levels, initiating purchase orders, and communicating order status to lab users.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving of laboratory materials and equipment, ensuring proper documentation, handling, and storage.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries. Provide input on employee performance evaluations.

HJF is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Facilities Manager to ensure that laboratory operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. This role oversees equipment maintenance, safety compliance, supply chain management, and day to day operational support for the CPDR molecular and cell biology laboratories. The position supports over 30 research staff members-including senior and junior scientists, technical staff, and trainees-and requires a strong background in laboratory operations, regulatory compliance, and scientific or engineering principles. This position also provides professional administrative oversight of maintenance, utilities, and facility services in support of the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USU) Murtha Cancer Center Research Program's Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR).

The CPDR is an interdisciplinary translational cancer research program of the USU Department of Surgery, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), and the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP). CPDR is a Department of Defense designated research and clinical care center established by the U.S. Congress in 1991 to care for military service members and their families diagnosed with prostate cancer and prostate-related disease. The mission of the CPDR is to conduct state-of-the-art clinical, epidemiologic, and biomedical translational research with an emphasis on precision medicine to enhance the readiness of active-duty personnel in conjunction with the continuum of medical care for military retirees and beneficiaries. The CPDR also enriches the training of the next generation of physicians/scientists who directly benefit the quality, outcomes, and stability of the military health care delivery system.
