Laboratory Operations Assistant

Assist with orientation and training staff, students, visiting scientists, and new lab members in the application and use of scientific equipment.

Coordinate all administrative aspects of the lab, including: • Ordering and procurement of equipment • Inventory management • Maintenance and disposal of equipment • Ensuring the lab meets compliance requirements

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), coordinate the implementation and maintenance of compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other regulations to ensure laboratory safety, efficiency, and quality control.

Additional Responsibilities

Provide support in maintaining multiple ticket systems for requests from Facilities management and IT, as well as computer management of all CIBS workstations.

Maintain inventory and check-out of cryogenically stored cells, surplus, and U of A financial asset audit.

Support and maintain research experiments, methods, under the direction of principal investigators, including: • Following animal research protocols • Processing biological and specimen collection • Performing laboratory assays • Organizing data collection and documentation

Facilities and Equipment Maintenance

Maintain research facilities and equipment and coordinate outsourcing to service vendors as needed.

Coordinate and perform preventative maintenance, assist with service contracts, and make repairs as needed.

Regulatory Compliance

Coordinate and perform the following regulatory tasks: • Storing and shipment of biological specimens and chemical substances, ensuring they are handled per regulatory requirements • Submission of IACUC Chemical and Biosafety protocols • Maintaining laboratory compliance with all University regulatory requirements

Inspections and Training

Under the direction of the PI, participate with annual RLSS inspection and bi-annual IACUC inspections in laboratory spaces.

Under the direction of the PI, assist in meeting the education certification and training requirements for all lab personnel.

Assist laboratory members with performance of basic lab techniques.
