Job Summary:

The Laboratory Billing Supervisor coordinates and completes laboratory related billing including conducting audits, correcting errors, training laboratory staff on billing procedures and identifying system wide issues. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate billing related activities required by the laboratory including the resolution of daily errors in a timely manner.
  • Provide education to the laboratory staff to reduce billing errors.
  • Develop billing procedures related to manual entry, error identification, and resolution.
  • Manage laboratory related Epic work queues in a timely manner. 
  • Perform periodic audits of the billing process in the laboratory to determine if charges are being created appropriately.
  • Create schedules and evaluate staffing needs for sick, vacation and LOA’s.
  • Oversee the procurement, preparation, and analysis of patient specimens according to established procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of specialty by attending seminars, in-services and reading journals.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's Degree Preferred; Field of study: biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 Years of job-related experience required.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other nationally recognized laboratory certification required.
  • Knowledge of pathology/laboratory medicine and billing
  • Ability to troubleshoot billing issues
  • Skilled in quality improvement and problem resolution
