Distinguishing Features of the Class

An incumbent to a position in this class is a working supervisor assigning and directing Laborers and other personnel in maintenance and cleaning tasks. The Labor Supervisor I works hand in hand with his personnel and the nature of the work includes a small degree of technical knowledge. The incumbent has the responsibility for seeing that the work is done in an efficient manner, on schedule and in accordance with approved procedures. Work is reviewed in process and upon completion by a superior.

Minimum Qualifications

Promotional

(A)Continuous and permanent status in any city department in the competitive class as a Cleaner, Cleaning Worker, Custodian, Head Janitor, Janitor, Laborer, Maintenance Assistant (Sewer Cleaning), Sanitation Worker for one year.

OR(B)Continuous and permanent status in any city department in the non-competitive class as a Laborer I, Laborer II or Housing Custodian for two years.

Special Requirement

Possession of a current NYS Drivers License which must be presented at time of appointment.

Open Competitive

Two years of full time experience as a Laborer or in a position involving manual labor work.
