Job Title: Lab Technician

Location: Wheat Ridge, CO

Pay Rate: 25 - 28/hr, W-2

Duration: 6+ Month Contract

Night shift; Monday-Friday, 9pm-5:30am

Summary:

  • Work Mode: Onsite
Message from Manager: "for this temp position, I am looking for someone who has direct clinical reference lab experience.  Ideally the candidate will have experience analyzing patient clinical samples working in at least one of these areas:
Urinalysis, Hematology, Chemistry or Parasitology.  It's a bonus: if they have experience working in animal health.
When I review resumes for a temp position, I look for lab techs who have worked in a clinical reference lab (e.g., LabCorp, Quest, Idexx, Antech) or in a hospital setting working in the hospitals clinical lab.

People who have experience working only with point of care equipment (POC) or QA experience or work on mass spec/PCR, or in labs that test chemicals or water treatment aren’t good fits.  Our training for a general lab tech takes 6mos – 1year typically, so I am looking for candidates that don’t need much training."

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare biological specimens for testing in various departments, including hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, and coagulation.
  • Use high-throughput automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic equipment to test sample types such as whole blood, serum, urine, and feces.
  • Set up and execute laboratory tests, review results, and release findings in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on analyzers, including daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance.
  • Perform basic analyzer troubleshooting techniques on one major department analyzer.
  • Review and accept daily Quality Control reports and weekly Levey-Jennings charts.
  • Handle and store all biological specimens in accordance with SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
  • Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste while adhering to all applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Consistently and properly fill out laboratory logs, including maintenance, environmental, and cleaning logs.
  • Maintain several types of records, including medical records, courier logs, and manifests.
  • Prepare biological specimens for shipment to offsite testing facilities, adhering to all standards set forth by regulatory bodies including the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Receive, store, and log all laboratory and office supplies into designated locations.
