Position Summary

The Lab Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the coordination and management of multiple laboratories within CNM. This position encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities crucial to the efficient functioning of academic labs. This position supervises lab technicians and ensures that all lab activities are conducted in compliance with safety protocols and quality standards. Lab Supervisors are involved in developing and implementing lab procedures, training staff, managing inventory and supplies, and maintaining equipment. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab and the accuracy of test results.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises, leads, and manages staff, which includes prioritizing, and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy, and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Tracks and monitors lab budgets, prepares proposals for equipment procurement, and maintains inventory of files and materials.
  • Purchases, receives, catalogues, and stores tools and equipment following established procedures.
  • Assists instructors in setting up demonstrations, preparing materials for lectures, and providing advanced support for specialized lab equipment.
  • Collaborates with instructors on improvements to the workspace and schedules Open Lab hours.
  • Develops and implements waste management and chemical handling programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Coordinates standardization of laboratory solutions and materials, conducts equipment calibrations, and performs minor maintenance.
  • Facilitates communication between lab technicians and faculty, and provides support for community outreach programs.
  • Collaborates with administration on short- and long-term projects, including facility changes and curriculum updates.
  • Assists students in safely using equipment, materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensures the operation of assigned laboratories maintains a safe, orderly, and secure environment.
  • Provides technical support for computers, software, hardware, and related equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree

AND

  • Up to one (1) year of related experience or training
  • Direct supervisory experience, including staff scheduling, task assignment, performance management, and resolution of personnel issues
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or administering technical training equipment and associated software (may include simulation manikins, AV/recording systems, XR/AR hardware, or comparable technical lab equipment)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VALT or comparable simulation AV/debriefing software, including license management
  • Experience maintaining medium- or high-fidelity patient simulators or comparable technical simulation equipment
  • Experience supporting healthcare, public safety, or XR/AR instructional environments
  • Experience administering software licensing or platform access across multiple physical locations
  • Basic biomedical, electronic, or AV troubleshooting experience
  • Experience navigating complex personnel or disciplinary matters in a unionized or regulated HR environment.
