Position Summary

The Lab Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the coordination and management of multiple laboratories within CNM. This position encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities crucial to the efficient functioning of academic labs. This position supervises lab technicians and ensures that all lab activities are conducted in compliance with safety protocols and quality standards. Lab Supervisors are involved in developing and implementing lab procedures, training staff, managing inventory and supplies, and maintaining equipment. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab and the accuracy of test results.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Tracks and monitors lab budgets; and researches and prepares proposals for capital equipment procurement.
  • Establishes and maintains inventory of files and materials for lab; and monitors consumable supplies and prepares purchase orders for inventory items.
  • Researches, develops, proposes and implements waste management and chemical handling programs and documentation; and ensures implementation of OSHA standards, National Fire Protection and Association codes, Material Safety Data Sheets, waste management and safety plan compliance programs.
  • Coordinates and monitors the standardization of laboratory solutions and materials; conducts chemical laboratory equipment calibrations; and performs minor equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinates lab technician feedback to faculty; and provides primary laboratory support for community outreach programs.
  • Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Film, Digital Media, Media Production, Creative Technologies, Studio Arts, Theatre, or a related field

AND

  • At least one (1) year of related experience and/or training.

Preferences

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience (minimum of one year preferred), including oversight of work-study students, staff, or lab users
  • At least one year of experience working in a film, digital media, creative technologies, studio, art labs, or similar creative environments
  • Experience coordinating equipment, scheduling, and/or daily operations within a lab, studio, or creative environment
