Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor

Employment Type: Full-Time 40 hours per week

Location: Germantown Hospital

Position Purpose

  • Assists the Laboratory Manager with coordination and oversight for the efficient and effective operation of Anatomic and Clinical Laboratory; to directly supervise and evaluate personnel and to perform technical, quality review and administrative duties as they apply to the section; accountable for review of department quality assurance and performance improvement procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

As a Laboratory Supervisor you will:

  • This position is responsible for the operational continuity of the HCGH Laboratory and reports directly to the HCGH Laboratory Manager.
  • Performs routine and specialized procedures, reviews and approves clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Responsible for assigned and scheduled quality control, review of daily test results, maintenance schedules and records.
  • Responsible for review, preliminary counseling, and participation in staff evaluations with the department manager. Acts as the resource person resolving technical matters.
  • Responsible for training as needed/directed by the department manager; department manager retain responsibility for the training plan and acceptance of all training and competency. Responsible for the orientation, training and support ongoing competency for the laboratory staff as established by the department manager. Responsible for documentation of validation of training for staff as directed by the department manager.
  • Manages workload and re-assignment of personnel based on the shift needs, communicates daily with Department Manager and Charge Techs.
  • Areas of responsibility include all lab sections, including pre-analytical, Anatomic and Clinical lab operations. Performs all duties in accordance with established protocol for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Medical Technology), biological, chemical or related science; and satisfactory completion of a clinical laboratory educational rotation;

  • or-

A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics -and- successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technologist program.

  • or-

A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry, one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, -and- one year of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and/or Clinical Microscopy within the last ten years. Clinical rotations or professional experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology) or an appropriately board-certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist. Strong knowledge of laboratory methodologies, interpretation of results, quality assurance, and CMS regulations required; Ability to work in harmony with other personnel; Demonstrated time management and organizational skills; Basic computer literacy. Demonstrate comprehension and command of oral, verbal and written English Language Skills.

Pay Range:

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
