JOB SUMMARY:
As the Supervisor of Blood Bank Transfusion Servicemulti-campus, you will provideoperational and technical leadership for two full‑service transfusion service departments across separate hospital campuses. This role oversees daily operations, staff performance, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance for all blood bank functions, including a therapeutic phlebotomy donor room, remote refrigeration units, and emergency blood release processes at a satellite emergency facility. The supervisor ensures safe, timely, and accurate transfusion support for all patient populations and collaborates closely with clinical, laboratory, and administrative partners across the health system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Leadership
Regulatory Compliance & Quality
Ensures full compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards, The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements, AABB principles, and all state and local regulations.
Leads preparation for inspections, accreditation surveys, and internal audits.
Develops, reviews, and updates policies, procedures, and SOPs to maintain regulatory readiness.
Oversees quality assurance activities, including proficiency testing, incident investigations, corrective actions, and process improvement initiatives.
Staff Training & Competency
Supervises, mentors, and evaluates blood bank technical staff across all campuses.
Coordinates onboarding, training, and annual competency assessments for all team members.
Ensures staff proficiency in complex immunohematology, transfusion reactions, emergency release protocols, and specialized procedures.
Promotes a culture of continuous learning, safety, and professional development.
Collaboration & Communication
Works closely with nursing, emergency services, surgery, oncology, obstetrics, and other clinical departments to support safe transfusion practices.
Serves as a resource for clinicians regarding blood utilization, product selection, and transfusion guidelines.
Collaborates with laboratory leadership, medical directors, and quality teams on system‑wide initiatives.
Administrative & Supervisory Responsibilities
Participates in hiring, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Monitors productivity, staffing needs, and workflow efficiency across both campuses.
Assists with budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
Supports implementation of new technologies, LIS enhancements, and process improvements.
Work Environment:
Multi-site responsibility requiring regular travel between three campuses
