Join Utah Valley University as a part-time Lab Manager and play a key role in supporting hands-on learning for students. In this collaborative position, youll help ensure laboratory courses run smoothly by managing equipment, preparing materials, maintaining lab spaces, and supporting laboratory personnel. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Orders, procures, and prepares supplies, materials, and solutions for laboratory courses.

  • Organizes and maintains facilities and equipment for laboratory courses, including chemicals and Material Data Safety Sheets.

  • Trains and supervises laboratory personnel.

  • Identifies, selects, and makes hiring recommendations for student assistants.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in an area of expertise commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position; OR, a related combination of education and experience totaling four years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of laboratory methods in microbiology. Knowledge of the maintenance of lab equipment.

  • Knowledge of safe handling and storage of lab materials, supplies, and cultures.

  • Knowledge of OSHA laboratory standards and the ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or hazard control standards.

Skills

  • Skill in selecting, training, and supervising co-workers and assistants.

Abilities

  • Ability to effectively juggle multiple responsibilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of co-workers with varying levels of training.

  • Ability to interact productively with students.

Utah Valley University was established in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School (CUVS) with the primary function of providing war production training. CUVS was part of the Provo School District located in south Provo. The institution received a state appropriation in March 1945 of $50,000 to operate for the 1945-1947 biennium. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. A new site for the school was acquired on University Avenue in Provo in 1948; in the 1952, the state appropriated funding for the first construction on that site. As enrollments grew, the state acquired over 185 acres in southwest Orem and the first building was completed in 1977. Today, the University’s facilities consist of a combined total of 412 acres with 50 buildings with campuses in Orem, Provo, and Heber City and property in Vineyard and at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
