At Houston Methodist, the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Analyst is responsible for providing assistance in the development, implementation and support of information system projects. This position requires the use of independent judgment to recognize, investigate, troubleshoot and resolvesystem related problems as they occur. This role maintains required documentation of activities. Maintaining knowledge of computer technology (software and hardware) through new procedure development, review of section procedure manuals and technical manuals is essential. Other duties include assisting with training staff, residents and others as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Directly assists operators in performing their duties (troubleshooting user-report terminal or printer malfunctions, operations exceptions, recovering from system problems, etc.).

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in the day to day operation of the LIS, middleware and interfaces implemented throughout laboratory services accurately and efficiently according to established procedures within assigned time frame.
Maintains hardware, software, and databases used in the lab. Coordinates routine equipment preventive maintenance and minor repairs
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitors system performance, recognizes and resolves problems, troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment/software, and uses alternate methods where available with minimum supervision.
Performs system investigation in response to identified occurrences.
Maintains accurate and organized documentation in compliance with guidelines set by regulatory bodies.
Compiles and reviews quality data as it relates to LIS functions and submits for assessment by Medical Laboratory Scientist Specialists and/or management as needed. Oversees section compliance by reviewing and responding to CAP Accreditation Checklists questions/findings regarding LIS.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs validation process to ensure charges are mapping appropriately and submits changes as needed.
Adjusts work schedule to accommodate departmental/organizational needs. Appropriately utilizes the time recording system.
Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Utilizes all available work time by assisting others and performing additional tasks.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs assigned tasks related to system implementation/validation or application and system upgrades, including but not limited to middleware, hot fixes and new tests and/or interfaces.
Creates reports as needed for quality management and process improvement.
Assists with LIS tasks, including but not limited to, data storage management, interface management, operating system upgrades, software upgrades, hardware upgrades and new instrument implementation involving IT across multiple departments.
