Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to provide leadership and oversight for Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics laboratory operations. This role is responsible for directing technical activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining quality standards, managing laboratory personnel, and supporting strategic growth initiatives.
The Director will oversee laboratory operations across molecular genetics and cytogenetics testing services while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate, efficient, and high-quality diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight for molecular pathology and cytogenetics laboratory operations
Direct technical activities, quality assurance programs, and laboratory workflow processes
Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and operational standards
Ensure accuracy, validity, and quality of all laboratory testing performed
Monitor compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements
Oversee laboratory staffing, training, performance management, and professional development
Manage laboratory budgets, productivity, and resource utilization
Evaluate and implement new technologies, methodologies, and testing platforms
Direct proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives
Collaborate with physicians, genetic counselors, researchers, and healthcare teams
Maintain laboratory records, reports, and operational metrics
Participate in strategic planning and long-range laboratory development initiatives
Support teaching, mentoring, and educational activities as required
Requirements
PhD in Life Sciences, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, or a related field
Board Certification or Active Candidacy through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics, or Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Clinical laboratory experience with molecular pathology and/or cytogenetics testing
Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS), RT-PCR, Sanger sequencing, microarray analysis, FISH, and karyotyping
Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and laboratory regulatory requirements
Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills
Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal abilities
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex laboratory operations
Experience in laboratory administration and technical oversight preferred
