Job Title: Laboratory Assistant Location: Irving, TX Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension) Shift: Tuesday-Saturday, 7 AM-3 PM. CST Job Summary The Laboratory Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by performing routine functions accurately and efficiently. This role assists laboratory professional staff and helps ensure smooth specimen processing, equipment readiness, and compliance with quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Sort, receive, and accession specimens within the department Perform routine maintenance on designated laboratory instruments Centrifuge specimens and perform basic specimen processing tasks Print and manage specimen labels Record and maintain laboratory data (e.g., temperature charts) Store, retrieve, and manage specimen inventory Prepare reagents and/or media as required Prepare specimens for testing, including: Building worklists Aliquoting specimens into sample cups Inspecting specimens for clots and fibrin Inoculation and slide preparation Perform Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) duties as assigned Resolve pending test lists and locate missing samples Decontaminate laboratory work areas Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests Maintain department files and records Change gas cylinders as needed Follow all PPE requirements and laboratory safety regulations Operate laboratory computer systems and standard PC applications Properly dispose of biohazardous materials Complete all required training and competency checklists Note: This job description is not exhaustive and may include additional duties as assigned.
