Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

The PSAHHS Lab and Simulation Coordinator position provides laboratory and simulation support to students and faculty within the Nursing and EMS Departments, ensuring an effective and safe learning environment for all lab/simulation sessions. Working closely with faculty and the EMS/NSG curricula, this position coordinates day-to-day lab operations, including equipment setup, maintenance, and inventory management; is responsible for setting up all lab/simulation activities; and assists both students and faculty throughout training activities as needed. The Lab and Simulation Coordinator also plays a critical role in maintaining program compliance with accreditation standards set by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Virginia Office of EMS (OEMS), and the Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON). This position reports directly to the PSAHHS Dean and collaborates closely with both the Program Chair for EMS and the Director of Nursing Education Programs. The position ensures that laboratory supplies and equipment are ready for use in the PSAHHS Division EMS and Nursing laboratories; maintains an inventory of all laboratory supplies and equipment; promptly procures supplies and laboratory materials for instructional purposes; and performs other duties assigned by the PSAHHS Dean. The position also supports full-time and adjunct faculty with labs for EMS and Nursing courses at both campuses. The ability to communicate in a timely and effective manner (orally and in writing) and to pay attention to detail is essential. Be able to support multiple campuses with instructions from the PSAHHS Dean and Fire and EMS Program Chair. This position is required to work 40 hours per week.

This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Experience in maintaining laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment in an Allied Health Program (Nursing or EMS preferred)
  • Experience with safety rules and regulations that apply to laboratory maintenance and supplies.
  • Experience working in EMS or Nursing simulation environments

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods utilized in maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment

Skills

  • Proficient in MS programs (Outlook, Excel, Word) to include the development of documents with new formats. Working knowledge of Google Drive
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. The ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to organize materials, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports
