The Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operation of the Menominee Indian School District Food Service Program by assisting with meal preparation, food service, sanitation, inventory control, USDA meal program compliance, and snack program coordination. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate records, ensuring food safety standards are met, and providing support to the Head Cook and Assistant Cook to ensure efficient meal service for students.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the automatic dishwasher and manually wash pots, pans, trays, and kitchen equipment as needed.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen workspaces, dishwashing areas, storage areas, and equipment.

  • Ensure all dishes, utensils, trays, and cookware are cleaned, sanitized, dried, and properly stored.

  • Report damaged equipment or maintenance concerns to the Head Cook.

  • Assist with meal preparation and serving for breakfast and lunch programs.

  • Assist the Head Cook and Assistant Cook with food preparation, serving, and cleanup activities as assigned.

  • Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food products in accordance with food safety standards.

  • Maintain daily milk usage records for breakfast, lunch, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), and snack programs.

  • Order milk from the approved distributor on a weekly basis.

  • Maintain daily milk temperature logs and ensure compliance with food safety requirements.

  • Maintain dishwasher temperature logs and report any temperature concerns immediately.

  • Assist with maintaining required USDA and DPI documentation and records.

  • Prepare and distribute Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) snacks daily.

  • Prepare and distribute after-school snacks in accordance with program requirements.

  • Monitor inventory levels of snack items and communicate ordering needs to supervisory staff.

  • Follow all federal, state, local, and district food service regulations and guidelines.

  • Maintain compliance with USDA, Wisconsin DPI, and district food safety standards.

  • Participate in required food service and sanitation training.

  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.

  • Assist with special events, catering, and school functions as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Cook, or administration.
