Job Description ~ K-8 Humanities Coordinator
General Description: The K-8 Humanities Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in developing,
implementing, and evaluating the curriculum/program in the assigned areas of responsibility (K-8 English Language
Arts, Social Studies, and Library). The Coordinator works collaboratively with school administrators and teachers at
the elementary and middle school level.
Supervision Received: The K-8 Humanities Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of
Curriculum and Instruction
Work Year: 12 months work year: As outlined in the Educational Administrators' Association of Wallingford MOA
Qualifications
? Holds Connecticut Intermediate Administrative Certification (092)
? A 6th Year degree with a major in educational administration
? 5 Years of relevant experience in the field education
Essential Duties:
Instructional Leadership
? Utilizes a collaborative approach to evaluate and develop standards-based curricula and instructional
practices that address the diverse needs of all students.
? Assesses the curricular needs of the departments and develops both short and long term goals and
objectives aligned to the District's goals and objectives
? Monitors and evaluates curricular efficacy based on a variety of assessments, data systems and
accountability strategies.
? Provides staff with the most recent and relevant research information pertaining to specified subject
areas; maintains current with research and trends
Resource Management
? Works with district leadership to maintain educational, technological, and fiscal resources to provide for
a safe, healthy, and high-performing learning environment.
? Collaborates with district leadership in developing and maintaining fiscally responsible and appropriate
resources for staff and students.
Personnel
? Provides for on-going, meaningful professional development and other supports that emphasize
equitable opportunities for success for all stakeholders.
? Engages in high-quality evaluation practices that balance support and accountability per the District's
Teacher Evaluation Plan
Culture and Climate
? Demonstrates a variety of techniques and strategies for the flow of information, developing trust,
providing direction, and resolution of issues
? Acts decisively, objectively, and consistently in arriving at resolutions of issues and problems
? Organizes, plans, and coordinates activities, personnel and resources to attain district, school, and
department goals
? Interacts professionally with staff and administrative personnel
? Assumes, when appropriate, the responsibility for data collection, analysis and completion of reports to
local, state, and federal agencies
Additional Duties:
? Implements and enforces all Board of Education policies and regulations
? Acts as a liaison among general education and special education; coordinators, teachers, building
administrators, and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
? Serves as an instructional model and resource for teachers.
? Serves on district level committees and perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of
Schools
? Advances professional learning by attending seminars and conferences
? Coordinates the efforts of contract service providers.
? Maintains the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the
district
