Instruction & Student Support
- Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in individual, small group, and inclusive classroom settings
- Adapt and modify general education curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
- Implement research-based instructional strategies and interventions aligned to student IEP goals
- Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data
IEP Development & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state regulations (IDEA, Illinois State Board of Education requirements)
- Schedule and lead IEP meetings, including annual reviews and reevaluations
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports and service logs
- Ensure all services are delivered as outlined in student IEPs
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching models
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Work with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, social workers, etc.) to coordinate services
- Participate in problem-solving teams, MTSS/RTI meetings, and staffings
Assessment & Data Management
- Administer and interpret formal and informal assessments
- Collect and analyze student performance data to guide instruction and interventions
- Assist in eligibility determinations and reevaluation processes
Behavior & Classroom Management
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed
- Utilize positive behavior supports and trauma-informed practices
- Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Illinois State Board of Education regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
- Participate in professional development and stay current on best practices in special education
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
Additional Duties (as needed in a small district setting)
- Supervise paraprofessionals and provide guidance on instructional strategies
- Assist with transition planning and support services
- Support school-wide initiatives such as PBIS, SEL programs, and intervention blocks

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) endorsement
- Knowledge of special education laws and compliance requirements, including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
- Understanding of regulations and guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
Salary/Benefits
Salary
- Starting Salary: $45,000 - $62,000
- Salary placement based on education level, experience, and qualifications
- Additional compensation may be available for extended duties, stipends, or extracurricular involvement
Benefits Package
- Health Insurance: Board-paid insurance up to $835 per month
- Retirement: Participation in the Teachers'' Retirement System of the State of Illinois (TRS)
