The successful candidate will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), provide specially designed instruction in inclusive and pull-out settings, and collaborate with families, educators, related service providers, and administrators to ensure students receive meaningful educational opportunities in the least restrictive environment. This position requires a commitment to fostering academic achievement, independence, social-emotional growth, and positive relationships with students and families.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assess student strengths and needs using appropriate evaluation data to develop, implement, and monitor legally compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide specially designed instruction in academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional life skills through inclusive, pull-out, and self-contained settings, as appropriate.
  • Differentiate instruction using evidence-based practices, accommodations, modifications, and task analysis to meet each student's individual needs.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate progress regularly with students, families, and educational teams.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraeducators, related service providers, administrators, and outside agencies to support student success in the least restrictive environment.
  • Train, supervise, and support paraeducators and instructional assistants assigned to special education programs.
  • Implement positive behavior supports, classroom management strategies, social skills instruction, and de-escalation techniques to promote student engagement and self-regulation.
  • Assist students in developing independence and reducing behaviors that interfere with learning.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students, including following required procedures for students with significant medical, cognitive, or physical needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, professional development, and other district responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with IDEA, Section 504, Washington State regulations, and district policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a closely related field.
  • Valid Washington State Special Education Teaching Certificate or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Washington State special education laws and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience providing special education services in a K-12 setting.
  • Experience supporting students with reading disabilities, autism, cognitive disabilities, or multiple disabilities.
  • Training or experience in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Safety Care de-escalation strategies, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), or similar behavior support programs.
  • Experience collaborating with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other related service providers.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and special education data management systems.
