Estimator Assistant

Under the lead estimator supervision, this person will assist in preparing cost estimates for construction projects in bidding on or determining price of products, materials, etc. Assist the lead estimator in preparing estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work. Collaborates with lead estimator to meet all bid dates and deadlines. Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors. Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project. Maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations with guidance from the Lead Estimator. Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors with guidance from the Lead Estimator. Provide Lead Estimator details on material and labor requirements in relation to cost-effectiveness in producing or purchasing components. Visit site and record information about access, drainage and topography, and availability of utility services. Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to reduce cost Supervisory: This position does not oversee staff. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience High School Diploma or equivalent, required. At least 6 months in the industry, required. Experience as an estimator, preferred. Preferred Skills/Abilities Agtek software experience. Other industry software experience, a plus.
