The Junior Procurement Specialist supports the Lead Procurement Specialist / Procurement Manager with day-to-day procurement, logistics, and materials coordination activities. This role helps ensure critical manufacturing materials, components, and supplies are researched, ordered, received, tracked, and organized in support of operational and production requirements.

The ideal candidate has experience in procurement, logistics, supply chain, inventory control, or materials coordination and is comfortable using procurement or logistics systems to track orders, receive materials, organize records, and communicate with vendors. This position is a strong fit for a detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support sourcing, ordering, shipping, receiving, and tracking of materials, parts, and other procurement items.
  • Research products, suppliers, and vendors to identify best-fit options based on cost, availability, quality, lead time, and operational requirements.
  • Communicate with vendors, suppliers, shipping contacts, and internal teams to obtain quotes, confirm availability, track orders, and resolve routine issues.
  • Maintain and organize procurement records, purchase requests, purchase orders, shipping documentation, receiving logs, and related materials records.
  • Use procurement, logistics, inventory, or manufacturing systems to update records, track materials, and support order visibility.
  • Monitor order status, delivery timelines, backorders, and shipping concerns, and elevate issues as needed.
  • Support receiving activities by verifying delivered items against purchase orders, packing slips, and internal records.
  • Coordinate with procurement, logistics, manufacturing, operations, and management teams to help ensure material requirements are understood and fulfilled.
  • Help identify alternate products or suppliers when items are unavailable, delayed, discontinued, or cost-prohibitive.
  • Provide additional procurement, logistics, and administrative support as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in procurement, logistics, supply chain, inventory control, warehouse operations, manufacturing support, or materials coordination.
  • Experience using procurement, logistics, inventory, ERP, MRP, or manufacturing systems to track, receive, and organize materials.
  • Ability to research products, compare suppliers, review specifications, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Familiarity with purchase orders, shipping documents, receiving records, inventory documentation, or Bill of Materials tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with vendors, suppliers, shipping contacts, and internal team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, track pending actions, and follow up on open orders or requests.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team environment where flexibility, collaboration, and accountability are important.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, production, engineering, or technical procurement environments.
  • Experience with ERP, MRP, inventory management, procurement tracking, or Bill of Materials software.
  • Familiarity with sourcing specialized, technical, or hard-to-find materials or components.
  • Experience coordinating vendor quotes, shipping timelines, receiving activity, lead times, or product availability.
  • Understanding of procurement principles, vendor management, and basic supply chain processes.
  • Government contracting, secure facility, or manufacturing support experience.
  • Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance, if required by contract.
  • Associate degree or coursework in supply chain, logistics, business administration, procurement, manufacturing, or a related field.

Education

Work Environment

This position may operate in an office, warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics support environment. The role requires coordination with vendors, internal departments, receiving personnel, and management, and may support changing procurement priorities in a fast-paced team setting.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods. The role may occasionally require receiving, inspecting, organizing, or moving materials and lifting light-to-moderate items based on business needs.
