Beebe School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Choral Director to lead and grow our junior high and high school choir program for grades 712. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional music educator, strong communicator, collaborative team member, and passionate advocate for fine arts education who can build a thriving choral culture focused on excellence, inclusion, and student growth.

This position includes directing all secondary choral ensembles, preparing students for performances and assessments, supporting extracurricular vocal opportunities, recruiting and retaining students, and serving as a visible leader within the school and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Direct and oversee the Beebe School District secondary choral program for students in grades 712
  • Develop and implement a clear vision for a vertically aligned junior high to high school choral program
  • Build and sustain a culture of excellence, student engagement, musicianship, and school pride
  • Establish short-term and long-term goals for program growth, performance quality, and student participation
  • Maintain high expectations for student achievement, conduct, and performance

Instruction and Classroom Management

  • Plan and deliver engaging daily choral instruction aligned to Arkansas music standards
  • Teach vocal technique, tone production, diction, sight reading, music literacy, and performance skills
  • Select age-appropriate, diverse, and educationally meaningful choral literature
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with special needs
  • Create a structured, positive classroom environment with clear expectations and consistent management practices
  • Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback to support growth

Performance Preparation

  • Prepare students for school concerts, public performances, festivals, and performance assessments
  • Lead student participation in Arkansas choral opportunities including All Region, All State, Solo and Ensemble, and Performance Assessment
  • Coordinate rehearsals, accompanists, music preparation, uniforms, logistics, and performance details
  • Direct choir performances at school and district events including graduation, Veterans Day ceremonies, awards programs, and other assigned functions
  • Support or assist with musical theater productions or other performing arts collaborations as assigned

Recruitment and Retention

  • Actively recruit students into the choral program at the junior high and high school levels
  • Build a strong feeder system that encourages continued participation from lower grades into high school
  • Promote student retention through relationship building, program excellence, and student engagement
  • Advocate for fine arts participation with students, families, counselors, and staff

Collaboration and School Culture

  • Collaborate with band, visual arts, theater, campus leadership, and other departments to support school events and cross-program initiatives
  • Maintain strong working relationships with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff
  • Contribute positively to school culture and support district goals and initiatives
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for the fine arts program within the school community

Communication and Community Engagement

  • Maintain consistent, professional communication with students, families, administrators, and colleagues
  • Promote choir events, achievements, and recruitment efforts through school and community outreach
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and community stakeholders
  • Represent the choral program professionally at district and community events

Organization and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage program budgets, inventory, purchasing, music library, fundraising records, and required documentation
  • Maintain accurate student records, participation rosters, event schedules, and financial records
  • Coordinate travel, event logistics, competition registration, and compliance requirements
  • Complete district responsibilities, reports, and deadlines in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • Valid Arkansas teaching license with appropriate certification in Vocal Music / Choral Music
  • Demonstrated experience teaching secondary choral music preferred
  • Knowledge of Arkansas School Music Association expectations, events, and performance standards preferred
  • Strong instructional, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends for performances, competitions, and special events as required
