Estimator Construction Job Summary
Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join their Estimating team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to all phases of the estimating process while working closely with Senior Estimators and project teams. The successful candidate will perform quantity takeoffs, analyze blueprints, coordinate with vendors and subcontractors, and prepare accurate, competitive project estimates.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in construction estimating with a General Contractor, demonstrating the ability to independently manage estimates for commercial construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and material measurements from architectural, structural, and engineering drawings using industry-standard software.
- Review and interpret project blueprints, specifications, scopes of work, and Request for Information (RFI) documents to understand project requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Request, collect, and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors through email, phone calls, and bid management platforms.
- Review subcontractor quotes, identify scope gaps or discrepancies, and prepare bid comparison summaries.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, including material costs, vendor information, and historical bid records.
- Prepare bid proposals, estimates, and supporting project documentation.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs to gather project information.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors throughout the estimating process.
- Support value engineering initiatives and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining project quality and scope.
Qualifications & Skills Education
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent construction experience will also be considered.
Experience
- 10 12 years of construction estimating experience with a General Contractor is required.
- Proven experience estimating commercial construction projects from preconstruction through bid submission.
- Strong background working within a General Contractor's estimating department.
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and project management teams.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare complete and accurate estimates independently.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction estimating principles and best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Excel, and other construction estimating platforms.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organize, analyze, and present project cost information accurately.

- Experience mentoring junior estimators is a plus.
