Junior Commercial Construction Estimator / Assistant Project Manager
Commercial Fencing and Perimeter Security | Union County, New Jersey
Our client is an established commercial fence contractor with roughly twenty years in the market, serving commercial, industrial, institutional and government clients throughout New Jersey and the surrounding region. The firm is adding a Junior Commercial Construction Estimator / Assistant Project Manager to support its estimating group on bid preparation and project administration. The position is a development seat with a defined path toward estimating independently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform quantity takeoffs from architectural, civil, structural, landscape and site drawings.
- Assist in assembling cost estimates for fencing, gate and access control scopes.
- Request, log and organize vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare proposals and scope letters for senior review.
- Track bid schedules, monitor addenda and manage submission deadlines.
- Assist with submittals, purchasing and change order documentation.
- Maintain estimating records, historical pricing data and bid files.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits.
- Support the estimating group as directed. The role does not set margin, negotiate contracts or sell independently.
QUALIFICATIONS
- One to three years of construction estimating, project coordination, purchasing, drafting, engineering or field experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret commercial construction drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Exposure to Bluebeam, PlanSwift or comparable takeoff software a plus.
- Background in fencing, site work, landscaping, concrete, ornamental metals, structural steel, electrical or access control preferred but not required.
- Ability to work full time in the Union County office, 8:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.
- Valid driver's license.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salaried position, not commission based. Benefits include health insurance, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off and paid holidays. The role carries hands-on training and a defined path to Commercial Estimator / Project Manager, with salary and incentive eligibility reviewed at that point.
