Summary

Under general supervision of the Hays County Pretrial Services Director, the intern will assist staff with pretrial release determinations by collecting, maintaining, and reporting information by prescribed procedures, and ensuring defendant's compliance with all pretrial release conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that defendants released by the court pending adjudication of their charges timely execute pretrial supervision contracts and other required documents. Ensures that all documentation generated, acquired, or complied in connection with the pretrial service policies is maintained by prescribed procedures.
  • Monitors, track's and assists Pretrial staff with ensuring defendants' compliance with all conditions of pretrial release, which may include, without limitation, remaining with a designated geographic area, and refraining from contact with an alleged victim.
  • Administers the case management software ensuring the information is accurate and up to date.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality by department procedures. Follows all applicable laws, regulations, and contractual requirements concerning acquiring and disseminating criminal history information.
  • Enters invoices for pretrial services expenditures. Maintains fee schedules and ledgers relating to fees collected from defendants. Instructs defendants regarding submitting payments and applications for fee exemption due to hardship.
  • Performs general office support duties.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Currently attending a college or university in order to obtain a Bachelors degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or a related field.

Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Texas Class C driver's license.
