Job Title: Journeyman Electrician

Location: Southeast Virginia Employment Type: Full-Time (W2)

GovFirst is seeking a qualified and experienced Electrician - Journeyman to support tunnel, bridge, and roadway infrastructure projects throughout Southeast Virginia. This position is responsible for the preventive maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial electrical systems that support transportation operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following but is not limited to:

  • Electrical Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on commercial and industrial electrical systems, including load centers and distribution systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, isolate, and repair electrical components up to and including 480 VAC, three-phase systems.
  • Maintain electrical wiring systems in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable industry standards.
  • Inspect electrical systems and components to evaluate condition, identify deficiencies, and recommend corrective or preventive maintenance actions.
  • Installation, Fabrication & Inspection
  • Assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses, wiring, and control systems supporting tunnels, bridges, and roadway infrastructure.
  • Plan layout and wiring for new and existing electrical installations.
  • Fabricate electrical parts and inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications, safety codes, and regulations.
  • Inspect related electrical work performed by contractors and verify conformance with project requirements.
  • Troubleshooting, Analysis & Documentation
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Utilize electrical testing instruments to identify and resolve system malfunctions.
  • Estimate labor, materials, time, and cost associated with electrical work and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to inspections, repairs, and work orders.
  • Operations & Safety
  • Safely operate electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and vehicles.
  • Maintain, clean, and service tools and equipment used in daily operations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, project management, and team members regarding work status.
  • Respond safely and appropriately to electrical emergencies.
  • Operate and perform work from a bucket truck as required.
  • Support traffic monitoring and control systems when applicable.

Requirements

  • Required Skills: Strong working knowledge of electrical theory, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade. Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical systems in commercial and industrial environments. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Scheduling flexibility to support a 24/7/365 operating environment.
  • Required Experience: Minimum two (2) years of field experience performing preventive maintenance and repair of commercial or industrial electrical systems. Experience utilizing electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical specifications. Experience working with electrical load centers, distribution systems, and safety compliance.
  • Required Education & Experience Requirements High School Diploma or GED required.
