JOB SUMMARY
The job duties of the Journeyman Electrician include performing skilled electrical work for construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems for all City facilities and equipment. This position operates under general supervision and is responsible for applying working knowledge of electrical systems and codes. The Journeyman Electrician may assist in directing apprentices or helpers and supports planning and execution of electrical projects.

Job Knowledge & Effectiveness
Expectation to maintain a Journeyman Electrician License and working knowledge of electrical codes and systems.
- Maintains knowledge of electrical systems, traffic control devices, VFDs, and pump drives.
- Applies standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
- Identifies and communicates necessary repairs, upgrades, or replacements to supervisor.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain licensing and improve skills.
- Inspects and evaluates electrical and electronic equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across City departments.
- Assists in maintaining records of work performed and materials used.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
- Assists in developing preventative maintenance schedules.
- Assists with obtaining materials and coordinating resources for projects.
- May assist in coordinating with outside vendors or contractors as directed.
- Assists with special projects as directed.
- Performs all other assigned duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License required or the ability to obtain one.
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience in the electrical field.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and installation practices.
- Valid Kansas driver's license with a good driving record.
