PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Job Search Instructor will be responsible for facilitating various workshops to enhance the employability of job seekers. They will also be responsible for facilitating Career Success Strategies (CSS) Seminars and provide customer contact support. The Job Search Instructor will actively recruit job seekers in general public workshops by selling Michigan Works services, including but not limited to: Case Management, Training Services, and Academic Center services. The Job Search Instructor will be responsible for preparing and updating the workshop calendar and all needed reports, records, and documents. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Assist participants to develop employer contacts and opportunities through the Michigan Talent Connect, internet, newspapers, the job board, the Business Service Team, networking, and other media.
- Perform public presentations to businesses and civic organizations and other informational presentations to promote awareness of Michigan Works! programs as assigned
- Instruct participants individually and possibly in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
- Participate in the development and upkeep of the classroom curriculum and activities concerning participant's job skills, interests and desires by providing materials and creating an atmosphere which motivates participants to improve themselves and build self-esteem.
- Help participants to understand the impact of absenteeism on production and work quality.
- Create a positive example in the classroom by being energetic and projecting a positive attitude.
- Establish clear objectives for all workshops and communicate those objectives to participants.
- Provide support to the participants on an individual basis and direct them to the appropriate resources as necessary.
- Instruct participants on how to find job openings and inform participants of job openings shared by Business Service Team representatives.
- Participate in mock interviewing to better prepare the individual for a job interview.
- Maintain accurate records including case notes.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Contact guest speakers to address class.
- Meet with SVRC administrators for program updates.
- Assure that participants register each day of class on G*STARS
- Copy and file materials as needed.
- Select and secure appropriate video recordings for classroom presentation and to add to the video library.
- Attend workshops, meetings and seminars as directed.
- Assist other program staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in human service, communications or business fields.
- Preferred background would include sales experience, teaching experience, demonstrated marketing skills and demonstrated ability to handle the public effectively.
- Proper phone usage and good communications skills, both written and oral, are also necessary.
